Naga Bonar (1986)

Told with satire and in a mocking tone of heroes within the period of the independence war, Naga Bonar, a former uneducated pickpocket, is naïve but brave and committed. He appoints himself as a commander of troops and fights against the Dutch. He falls in love with Kirana, a doctor’s daughter on the side of the Dutch. The funny tales of war are told, including his friendship with Bujang and his obedience to his mother. Deddy Mizwar performs brilliantly, inspiring the other players in this film.

Bandung Lautan Api (1974)

Set on 24 March 1946 in Bandung, when the city was engulfed in explosions as if it was a sea of fire, the battle scenes between Indonesian and Dutch dominate the film. The main plot line is the conflict of Nani, a Red Cross nurse, who loves Priyatna, an ex PETA fighter. Meanwhile, Hidayat, the commander of Priyatna’s troop, also likes Nani.
